Autumn Term Part 1 - Outdoor learning
Autumn has been an exciting term for outdoor learning! The children have been busy discovering how our garden and community spaces are changing, as well as caring for and harvesting the plants, flowers and vegetables they planted last term. We have enjoyed collecting courgettes, tomatoes and potatoes, while also gathering seeds to save and plant again next year, helping the children understand the natural cycle of planting, growing, harvesting and saving seeds.
Our outdoor spaces have burst into colour and attracted lots of fascinating insects to investigate new colours in leaves, textures, sounds and smells of autumn.
The children have also been collecting, and experimenting with conkers, including exploring what we can create with them and having a go at making our own conker soap.
They have been developing their physical skills through hammering, hand-drilling, lifting, whisking, carrying and moving materials, building strength, coordination and confidence while supporting both gross and fine motor development.
Our outdoor learning continues to provide opportunities for children to explore, problem-solve, experiment, take safe risks, work together and develop their curiosity about the world around them. We have also been growing our very own pumpkins and cannot wait to see what has happened beneath the leaves. Autumn is certainly keeping us busy, and there is still so much more to discover!
